NDAS Receives GIZ Delegation to Explore Technical and Vocational Training Collaboration

The Naval Dockyard Apprentice School (NDAS), Victoria Island, Lagos, received a delegation from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) on Friday, 9 October 2026, as part of efforts to expand collaboration opportunities in technical and vocational education and training (TVET).

GIZ is a German international development organisation that supports skills development in Nigeria through initiatives aimed at improving vocational training, occupational standards, instructor capacity and partnerships between training institutions and industry.

The visit gave the delegation an opportunity to learn about NDAS's training programmes, facilities, and ongoing efforts to strengthen practical skills development. Discussions focused on potential areas of cooperation, particularly curriculum development, instructor training, apprenticeship programmes, and aligning vocational training with industry standards.

A key consideration during the engagement was the need to ensure that training programmes remain responsive to the occupational requirements of the Nigerian Navy while equipping trainees with practical competencies relevant to the wider maritime and industrial sectors.

The visit also provided a basis for identifying areas in which GIZ's experience in vocational education and industry engagement could complement NDAS's ongoing training reforms.

Both institutions explored opportunities for further technical engagement to determine practical areas of collaboration and the steps required to advance them.
